Ammonium Alum
Introduction
Ammonium alum or Ammonium Aluminium Sulfate is a white crystalline double salt with the chemical formula (NH4)2Al(SO4)2 . 12 H2O. It is also known by the name Tschermigite.
Production and Uses
> Prepared by mixing Aluminium Hydroxide, Sulfuric acid and Ammonium Sulfate.
> Ammonium alum is a useful laboratory reagent. It is not widely used in industries but due to its cheap price, it invites many niche applications.
> Common Ingredient in mosquito repellant sprays.
> Used in water purification, vegetable glues, porcelain cement, deodorants, tanning, dyeing and fireproofing textiles.
